Moodboard: All Star

Following on from a post a little while back, where inspired by a Mother’s Day present of a set of Hares bookends, we compiled some of our favourite Hares products to compliment our Boxing Hares Wallpaper. This month, we take our All Star Fabrics and Wallpapers, with a mood board of our top choices below.

Any feedback or suggestions for products to compliment any of our other wallpapers, for use in future posts, would be most appreciated.

All Star Moodboard

As mentioned previously, we see a lot of rolls of wallpaper and fabrics leaving the Studio each week and we often wonder where they end up and how they look in their finished home. We will be posting our favourites on this blog and would love you to either email in your pictures to or simply post them on instagram or twitter with the hashtag #barnebygatesathome.

Today we are featuring our Boxing Hares Wallpaper in Stone.

Louisa Mousley Boxing Hares

Interior Designer Louisa Mousley, of The Style Guide Interior Design, creates a gorgeous hallway and staircase with a mix of neutral colours, stained wood and a fantastic red armchair.

Simon Kelly

Simon sent in this picture of a room in his house with a feature wall in Boxing Hares in Stone. We’d love to cosy up in front of the wood burning stove on a cold winter’s day in one of those very comfy looking armchairs!

Finally interior designer Kate Arbuthnott sent this image through of another hallway and staircase, complete with striking, statement Chandelier.

More favourites to follow soon…

Trend: Upcycling

We love the trend of upcycling and taking an old piece of furniture, or an object, and giving it a new lease of life. There are so many wonderful things that can be done using everyday items and just a little imagination, to transform something old or ordinary, into some beautiful and unusual. Here are some of our favourites.

Love this old Piano, transformed into a statement bookcase.  Re-cycled window frames make for a great room divider, without blocking out any light.

Old Tennis Rackets with mirrors instead of strings. A bicycle wheel makes for a striking wall clock.

Wallpaper doesn’t just have to be used on walls. We love this picture sent into us by one of our customers showing how they have used our Turquoise Paisley wallpaper and distressed paint to revamp a plain pine sideboard. Our Promenade wallpaper also looks great on this bedside table.

Do you have a few empty bottles or old hats lying around? Why not transform them into a fantastic new light!

Create more storage or display space using old books as shelves, or add casters and paint old drawers for fantastic under bed storage.

Barneby Gates - Autumn Berry - Vintage Pink - Set Shot

Painting an old chair and re-upholstering the seat pad in a new fabric can give a chair a completely updated look. We love our Rose Honey Bees fabric with this gorgeous, traditional, white chair.

House Rules, Australia.

House Rules is an Australian Reality Home Show, where six couples compete to become mortgage free by decorating each others homes. Think Changing Rooms, but on a much larger scale, and with the added bonus of travelling around Australia. In recent weeks we have been inundated with sample requests from our Australian customers and after a little investigation we have found out that our Honey Bees in Charcoal was used on the show. Here is a picture of the finished room!

Barneby Gates in Situ.

As mentioned in a previous post, we would love to know where you’ve seen Barneby Gates wallpapers and fabrics. This week we are featuring the slightly younger generation, with some of our favourites so far.

Nell's Bedrrom and Nell

We couldn’t resist including this one of Alice’s daughter Nell, in her bedroom which is papered in Bugs and Butterflies Raspberry.

And finally, we have found the perfect accessory for our Honey Bees fabric in Rose, an adorable baby, with rosy cheeks to match!

The Printing Process.

At Barneby Gates, we are proud supporters of British Design and Manufacture and all of our papers are designed by us and printed at one of the few remaining print works in the Midlands, using traditional printing techniques.

Hot off the press this week are our next set of new designs, Heraldic Lion and Autumn Berry. These designs will be launched officially this Autumn but we thought our lovely Blog readers may like to take a sneak peek at them and see behind the scenes at our printing factory.

The dye for our Autumn Berry, Blackberry colourway, mixed and ready to be added to the design.

The base colour of Wedgewood Blue is printed first on our Heraldic Lion design.

The English Home Cover Story

We are always really pleased when magazines and newspapers want to feature and photograph our homes, and we were thrilled when Alice’s Wiltshire farmhouse made the front cover of The English Home for May.

More press can also be found under the ‘our press’ section at the top.

Alice also features in the monthly article ‘A few of my favourite things…’ with favourites including Rockett St George, Austique, for shopping in London, and The Dundas Arms in Kintbury, where rumour has it Barneby Gates wallpaper makes an appearance. We would love to know where you’ve spotted Barneby Gates papers and fabrics, be it in your own home, a friend’s house, hotel, restaurant, bar or maybe even a more unusual or exotic location. With lots of rolls leaving the studio each week it is hard to keep a track of where they all end up! Please send any photographs to and we will hopefully feature them in a future blog post.

Introducing Anchor Tile and Chess

The sun is shining outside the studio and the Barneby Gates blog is ready for a new lease of life! Our apologies for the silence recently, it has been a very busy couple of years, but the blog is back, and this time we promise to keep you up to date. We would really value your comments and feedback too.

Introducing our very latest designs, Anchor Tile and Chess.

Anchor Tile: An unusual combination of Moorish influence with classic nautical features, Anchor Tile is made up of anchors and tiles in a Moroccan tile-like formation. Available in red/white/blue or marine.

Chess: Inspired by the King and Queen of the chessboard, this design is available in a soft stone or a rich burgundy for two very different looks.

Belated March Hare….

Inspired by the gorgeous present my children gave me for mothers day this year (namely, a pair of Hare bookends by Carol Ridler to go in the sitting room with our Boxing Hares wallpaper), I decided to gather together a few other Hare products I love. Following this post, I will do the same with all our other wallpapers, pairing products with the designs. Feel free to add comments as we go along if you have a product you feel should be included…
